A Partnership Begins19961996

Mick Strodder and Rachel Lewis form a partnership trading as IQ Engineers. Undertaking the installation of mechanical equipment across the UK including Adams Hydraulics process and flow control equipment.

IQ Engineers Limited is formed20082008

The business continues to provide installation to a range of customers including Adams Hydraulics throughout AMP4.

A Big Move20152015

IQ Engineers move into new purpose designed premises which combines a factory and office facility and gain our ISO 9001 2008 certification as we continue to develop and grow. Our services now include the refurbishment of equipment and the supply of equipment to an increasing Customer base.

An Exclusive Agreement to Manufacture Whipps 900 series penstocks in the UK20172017

We sign an exclusive licence agreement to manufacture Whipps penstocks. This enables us to exclusively supply and install IQ-Whipps penstocks throughout the UK. Our team continues to grow with new technical and sales managers coming on board. Extensive R&D sees the expansion of other designs for products including distributors and syphons. Providing quality products and a good service continues to be a priority. IQ Engineers achieve the ISO 9001: 2015 certification and extend our scope to include the supply of products alongside design. We take on our first Engineering Apprentice.

More Products Developed and Delivered20192019

Our product range is developed to include Bellmouths, Floating Arms and Stoplogs. The aim to manufacture well made products fit for purpose and suited for the Water Industry is key. A second engineering apprentice joins the team.

Continue to work through the Pandemic20202020

IQ Engineers continued to keep business going through the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting quickly to enable a safe balance of home working whilst maintaining product assembly within the works and carrying out some site installation. Always keeping the health and safety of our employees a priority and meeting our clients requirements. A further engineering apprentice joins the Company.

Our reputation as a business with specialist knowledge of legacy equipment continues to develop. As a member of British Water and Make UK we share knowledge and experiences with other businesses to support our Customers and the wider industry. Customers include Yorkshire Water, Scottish Water, Severn Trent Water, Northumbrian Water and United Utilities.

Our Management team possesses a wealth of management knowledge and experience in terms of Engineering, project management reporting and financial. Collectively the management team has a total of over 300 years’ experience in this industry and is more than equipped to deliver on all elements of your project.

Mick Strodder

Our owner and Managing Director who loves his job! Mick undertook an apprenticeship at Adams Hydraulics many years ago before setting up IQ Engineers in the 1990s. He has a great wealth of knowledge and enjoys passing on over 40 years of experience to other members of the team. Mick enjoys the challenges of site work and working with customers and is actively involved in all areas of the business.

Rachel Lewis

Owner and Director, Rachel looks after the finances and continued development of IQ Engineers as a knowledgeable and collaborative business. She enjoys working with the team developing new products and with other companies in the Water Industry through her role as Vice Chair of British Water's UK forum and being part of the Regional Advisory Board at Make UK.

Steve Weller

Steve is responsible for the day to day running of the business using over 40 years’ experience starting as an apprentice at Adams Hydraulics before progressing to Sales Director. He is a great engineer with comprehensive knowledge of water treatment processes including hydraulics on site and process issues.

Rachel has worked in this industry for 20 years and looks after the day to day management of our business systems including People and Project management and the overall operations. Rachel ensures that IQ Engineers is a conscientious and compliant Employer and delivers projects successfully.

Matt Fretwell

Matt began his career, over 25 years ago, in the drawing office where he was responsible for the design and detailing of Three Star Engineering’s range of screens and handling equipment. Matt then managed the drawing office after Adams Hydraulics aquired 3* where he broadened his knowledge of a range of products including penstocks, scraper bridges and distributors.

Paul Cousans

Paul joined IQ in January 2023, as our Technical Sales Manager. Paul brings with him a wealth of product technical knowledge having worked in the water and sewage treatment Industry for around 35 years. Paul has worked for several well-known companies, including Adams Hydraulics, specialising in selling Distributors, Penstocks, Scraper Bridges & GRP amongst other products so has extensive knowledge. He is a great addition to the IQ team.

Iain Smith

Iain has over 30 years of experience and has extensive knowledge of penstocks and flow control products including being a member of the British Standards committee for penstocks. He is well known in the industry and has worked with a wide array of Water Companies and Contractors throughout the UK.

Dave Armer

Dave has over 25 years experience in the water industry and is extremely competent in Project Management and contract review and has experience in CDM and site health and safety management.

Rob Wilce

Rob has over 20 years experience as a site engineer before becoming the Site Services Manager. He now uses his knowledge and experience gained on site, to manage on-site installation and lifting activities as a qualified Appointed Person.

Glen Walker

Glen spent 25 years working at Adams Hydraulics which later became Ham Baker Adams. He is a hands on engineer and enjoys being involved in the design and manufacture of a range of products including rotary distributors, syphons, flow control, ejectors & pumps. A good all round engineer!

Tom Monaghan

Tom joined IQ Engineers in June 2023 as our Design Engineer producing 3D CAD modelling and detailed manufacturing drawings. Tom is experienced in designing across a wide range industries including food production, automotive, manufacturing, and bespoke product design. Tom is enthusiastic about engineering with an eagerness to learn from the wealth of industry knowledge available at IQ Engineers.

Site Engineers

We are proud of the wide range of site engineers who deliver quality installations and repairs for our customers. They hold a range of experience and collectively have a very strong knowledge base in mechanical installation. The majority of our Engineers are qualified and competent as Lead Engineers, we are currently expanding our teams to share the knowledge and experience that our engineers hold.

Apprentices

IQ Engineers enjoys supporting the next generation of engineers through apprenticeships. We currently have two IQE apprentices, 1 supported by York college and one supported by Derwent Training Association, where they are developing a range of skills from working with their hands to producing some great quality components and assisting in the assembly of a full range of mechanical products.

We have a wide variety of accreditations and continue to add to them as we grow and develop the business. We always endeavour to meet our clients requirements so please get in touch if you have specific needs for your project. Skills

Our fully trained site teams have a wide range of skills and qualifications as IQ Engineers recognises the increased emphasis placed on Health and Safety over the years and aims to adopt new requirements early to ensure we meet our customers' expectations.

All of our Engineers hold National Water Hygiene (Blue Cards) to enable them to work on all clean water sites. Our Engineers are competent and able to work in secure environments or within safety critical environments.
